Udos Choice 3-6-9 Oil Blend by Flora

Many years ago, I had the chance to meet and talk with Dr. Udo Erasmus. He is a huge advocate of essential fatty acids from things like flax seeds. And he was working with a company to develop a top quality flax seed oil (which is incredibly high in omega-3 fatty acids). But apparently that company didn't meet his quality standards and ended working with a company that did, Flora, Inc.

He thought that Flax oil should be stored in glass bottles and shielded from light as flax oil can go rancid very fast once exposes to heat, light and oxygen. And apparently Flora agreed with him.

So Udo's oil 3-6-9 blend was created and bottled in glass bottles and is meant to be kept refrigerated and eaten within a few short weeks upon opening. It can even be freezed to help maintain the longevity of the delicate flax oil.

The all-organic blend has flax oil, sunflower oil, sesame oil, coconut oil, evening primrose oil, rice bran oil, soy lecithin, oat germ and bran oil, and mixed tocopherols. And it contains a carefully thought out blend of omega 3-6-9 fatty acids.

The thing about this oil is that you can't cook with it and it's very perishable. Use it or lose it sort of thing. I try to go through a whole bottle in under two months.

It's a very interesting product to say the least. I can actually feel this oil when I ingest it. I eat alot of olive oil and don't notice any difference in my health from the olive oil. But when I take Udo's oil, my skin literally changes when I take it regularly. It becomes less dry, more smooth. I also notice a definite decrease in inflammation and an increase in my energy levels from taking this particular oil blend within days.

How much to take?

I try to add tablespoon into a tuna salad whenever I can. The only downside is the taste isn't all that great. When I wasn't eating low carb, I noticed it was really well absorbed with pasta with tomato sauce. But with low carb, sometimes I take it straight, followed up with a swig of water during a meal.

The bottle suggests taking 1 tablespoon daily for every 50 lbs of body weight. For me, that'd be a lot of oil. I'm glad if I can get in a tablespoon per day.

Where to find it?

You can find it in your local health food store and preferably should be in the refrigerated section. If you don't have it, or can't find it, flax oil is a great source of omega 3's and could be substituted for it. Just don't cook with it and keep it in the fridge like Udo's oil. I think for flax oil, Barleans is also a good brand.
