About Low Carb Diet Works

Hi, my name is Robert and for the record, I am 6'6" tall, and currently weigh 330 301 287 265 256 pounds. This site is about one persons journey through the world of low carb. The articles and comments in this site are my opinion. They are not intended to be used as medical advice. Low Carb Diet Works is a cumulation of my own thoughts and personal experiences about what has helped me lose weight and feel better.

I started this whole thing weighing in at a whopping 330 lbs. My waist went from a size 55 to a size 46 so far and my body fat has dropped 6 points down from the high of 34%. Most of my clothes just don't fit anymore and because I am tall, I don't even look overweight anymore. I've been a massage therapist / bodyworker for over a decade. And I currently eat low carb (less than 30-40 grams per day) and I walk about 3 - 5 times per week. Also I take a break from eating low carb for about a week or two every 2 - 3 months entirely.

In my early 20's, I was a vegetarian and even a vegan for a number of years. Even did the raw food thing for a while. I weighed a slim and trim 195. But I just didn't feel well. I feel so much better eating animal protein, especially for breakfast.

So now, a few years later, having currently lost over 74 lbs in the last 7 months, I am on a serious roll and this site is all about the many Low Carb options that I have encountered over the last several months. The catch being I don't use artificial sweeteners, artificial preservatives or colors in my food. I focus on WHOLE FOODS, protein, veggies and fats as designed by nature.

I used to eat a lot fast food, just for the convenience. Over the summer, before switching to low carb, I cut out fast food entirely. But after several weeks of no fast food, I still didn't lose any weight. I then went on a popular 'weight watching' diet for a month. And I lost 2 lbs. In a month's time. Disappointing to say the least.

For me, I have found that if I want to lose weight effectively, then low carb works and works extremely well. I like having a clear set of parameters to follow and if I abide by them, then I drop weight like crazy and soon I'll be where i want to be.

I also had back surgery a few years ago which I would call it unsuccessful. As nearly half of them are. Actually a recent study I read said that only 26% of the people in Ohio on workman's comp who had back surgery actually went back to work. Can't say I'd recommend back surgery to anyone, unless you have no choice. This complicates my life a bit. Running is out. Walking is about my favorite thing to do and fortunately I live near the beach and a wildlife refuge where I hike / walk a lot.

To finish, I think the really fun part will be the transition from extreme low carb to lower to medium carb maintenance (probably Paleo) and that'll be an exciting bridge to cross when I get there.
